It appears though that Ryanair marketing executives did not see that Pan Am episode, as their latest advertising in two British newspapers caused the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to ban the adverts for being sexist. The adverts feature female Ryanar air hostesses in their underwear and a message "Red hot fares & crew!!! One way from £9.99". Bidisha, British writer and broadcaster says: "as you can see from the charmingly retro ad [...] (setting it in the past makes it okay, as every sexist ad man knows), it looks as if the woman herself is being sold for a tenner". Ryanair defended themselves saying that the ads were taken from their 2012 charity calendars (which already shocked the Swedish public). However, ASA said that although the women agreed to be portrayed in this way and the images were not overtly sexual in content, the pose of the women (especially the one pictured here, with the finger pulling her knickers down) was sexually suggestive and they ordered the Independent and the Daily Telegraph to remove the adverts. A member of an airline cabin crew started off a "Ryanair: stop selling your staff" petition, saying: "We have come a long way from seeing women purely in a sexual way as opposed to a professional way. No other profession would get away with depicting women in this way."
