No formal invitation will be required to apply for a visa, although applicants seeking Russian tourist visas must book their accommodation via a tour operator. The United States will be reducing the fee charged to Russians issued visas for business or tourism from $100 to $20. "The agreement will facilitate travel and establish stronger ties between Russia and the United States, as it will benefit the largest segment of travelers in both our countries: business travelers and tourists," said the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. Nearly 159,000 business and tourism visas were issued in FY 2011 to Russian citizens. Over 75,000 U.S. citizens travel to Russia annually, the majority of whom require Russian visas.
