Having launched just a few months ago, in June 2012, the takeover of Iceland Express (founded in 2002) makes WOW air the second biggest Icelandic airline, after the national carrier, Icelandair. WOW air emphasised this is a full acquisition and they will be taking over all Iceland Express scheduled flights and all aircraft will be flying under the WOW air brand. The airline does not expect any disruption for passengers already booked with Iceland Express and says it will "ensure that all obligations to them are fulfilled". This winter, WOW air will be offering flights to Salzburg during the ski season, and to Warsaw and Kaunas over Christmas. From next summer, the airline will offer flights from Reykjavik to 15 European destinations: London, Copenhagen, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Milan, Zurich, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Lyon, Alicante, Frankfurt, Vilnius and Warsaw. WOW air president Skúli Mogensen said: “We are extremely happy with the acquisition and offer Iceland Express passengers a warm welcome aboard. Iceland Express has been a pioneering low-fares airline in Iceland and was the country’s most punctual airline this summer. This acquisition will significantly boost WOW air and ensure that we can continue to offer the lowest prices and excellent service. We will immediately be able to greatly increase our frequency to and from London and Copenhagen, and also provide more capacity and new destinations next summer”.
