Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh opened the new Terminal 3 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on July 3, 2010. T3 has three functional runways that will handle both domestic and international traffic. The new terminal has opened for all international operations on July 14 and is expected to open for domestic passengers on July 30. Completed months ahead of the Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi in October, the T3 is the world’s sixth-largest terminal built at a cost of Rs 9,000 crore. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed the exuberance of a nation on a soaring growth path when he said: "An airport is often the first introduction to the country. A good airport would signal a new India, committed to join the ranks of modern industrialized nations."
