The ultra low cost carrier is now operating four non-stop flights per week between Plattsburgh International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Additionally, Spirit is operating extra seasonal flights in March and April: "Four years ago, how many believed we would all be able to board a direct flight in Plattsburgh to places like Fort Lauderdale," states Garry Douglas, President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce in Plattsburgh. "And now Spirit Airlines is taking us even farther, with all of its connecting flights to the Caribbean and Central and South America. Onward and upward for Plattsburgh International Airport!" "We are excited about Spirit Airlines’ inaugural service from Plattsburgh International Airport and are very pleased to offer passengers the opportunity to travel to markets throughout the Caribbean as well as to Central and South America. We wish them the same success that our other carriers are experiencing," commented James R. Langley, Jr., Chairman of the Clinton County Legislature. In addition, starting on May 5, 2011, Spirit will seasonally operate four non-stop flights per week between Plattsburgh and Myrtle Beach. Located in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York on the shores of Lake Champlain, Plattsburgh is centrally positioned near Albany, New York; Burlington, Vermont; and only an hour from Montreal, Canada.
Spirit Airlines also announced that on April 1, 2011, it will begin daily non-stop service between Chicago and Los Angeles. The new flights from Los Angeles to Chicago O'Hare will continue to Atlantic City as same aircraft one-stop service and flights from Chicago O'Hare to Los Angeles will start the journey in Atlantic City.
