Since the winning song, Running Scared, was announced, would-be holidaymakers have been logging on to look at flights to Baku in their droves, resulting in a drastic increase in searches to this destination, up by 54% this Sunday compared to last Sunday. In addition to its now celebrated singing prowess, Azerbaijan is also famed for being oil-rich country and its ancient history. Capital City Baku's Old Town is known to be some 2000 years old and the Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape in the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan has an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of stone age grafitti. Commenting on the search increase, Martino Matijevic, CEO and Founder of WhichBudget.com, said: "Azerbaijan's win is clearly good news for tourism there, highlighting to the rest of the world that Azerbaijan has much to offer as an emerging tourist destination. Despite the many global issues making travellers nervous at the moment, the chance to visit Azerbaijan and join in the feel-good fun appears to be quite appealing."
