A holiday in Salzburg offers a rare opportunity to combine one of Europe's most fascinating cities with world-class skiing. Starting on 17 December, transavia will be making more than 30 flights to the following ski destinations: Innsbruck, Salzburg, Grenoble and Geneva.

This is the second winter season that transavia will be scheduling flights that depart from airports in other countries. This will give skiers an opportunity to fly from Hamburg, Berlin, Copenhagen or Brussels (also of interest to Dutch customers) to Innsbruck. Brussels also acts as a departure point for Salzburg.

The exclusive, world-class ski resort of  Vail is one of the very best in the USA. It's also the nation's largest and, as a result, this Rocky Mountain destination can offer a superb holiday for couples, friends and families alike. The key to Vail's popularity is, of course, the wonderful skiing and snowboarding on offer. The wide range of pistes means there is a good choice of terrain for all abilities - particularly those at an intermediate and advanced level.

Stowe is one of New England's oldest and most exclusive resorts. This historic town was established over 200 years ago and was one of the first ski resorts in America. There is as much to attract non-skiers as skiers to Stowe and, as a result, the town is hugely popular all year round.

Set in the heart of New Hampshire's White Mountains, North Conway is a half-hour drive from five separate ski resorts. The closest, Cranmore Mountain, is minutes away and offers a great range of challenges for all levels of skier. Confident intermediates could ski for a week and never see the same piste twice. With Cranmore, King Pine, Attitash, Wildcat and Black Mountain all easily accessible, North Conway offers a supreme choice of terrain for skiers and snowboarders.

At the heart of Tahoe lies a sapphire-blue lake so deep that it remains unfrozen all year-round. The breathtaking surrounding scenery is dotted with over a dozen separate ski resorts and countless different ski areas. Its high average altitude helps to make this one of the most snow-sure resorts in the world, providing a beautiful powder covering over this huge ski and snowboard terrain.

Killington is the largest ski resort in Eastern USA and its grand ski area caters well for all skiing abilities. Being just a few hours drive from Boston you can easily combine a skiing holiday with a city break. And as Killington is a large town having a car can be extremely useful here, although the seven mountains are all linked to surrounding lodgings by a good daytime bus service.

The oldest ski resort in New Hampshire, Jackson provides a huge choice of terrain amongst a welcoming, friendly New England atmosphere. Attitash, Wildcat and Black Mountain ski areas are all within a 20-minute drive of Jackson. The friendly, un-crowded New Hampshire slopes make Jackson a great choice for the beginner, though skiers of all abilities will find exhilarating challenges. This is also the number one cross-country ski destination in Eastern USA, surrounded by over 150 kilometres of trails for a wide range of abilities.

A nice introduction to skiing in Colorado, Breckenridge is a former mining town that has developed into an attractive ski resort. This friendly, relaxed Colorado ski resort is framed by a breathtaking view of four surrounding peaks. Much of the original architecture remains, whilst new buildings have been added in a similar style, giving Breckenridge a traditional charm.

Aspen is one the most famous and respected skiing destinations in the world. Skiers of all abilities will find enjoyable and challenging pistes over a collection of four areas - Aspen Mountain, Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk - all conveniently linked by a free bus service. Snow reliability in Aspen is generally good and the extensive snowmaking and expert grooming creates excellent skiing conditions.
