WhichBudget Press Release, April 2004 WHICHBUDGET TO EXPAND INTO EASTERN EUROPE With the launch of its Polish language version today (9th April), Europe's leading discount travel website WhichBudget (www.whichbudget.com), is preparing for the big rise in the number of budget airlines across Eastern Europe, once the 15 new member states join the EU in May. "Poland is the largest new country to enter the EU, so we are concentrating on the Polish market to start with," says Martino Matijevic, WhichBudget's Managing Director, "but we are also looking at translating the site into Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Slovenian and Croatian and increasing our marketing activities in the respective countries." Mr Matijevic, of Croatian origin, notes the huge growth in Eastern European budget airlines, which are looking at attracting Western European tourists/business travellers, as well as serving the 70 million Eastern Europeans soon to form part of the EU and the immigrant community living and working in the West. "We have already added Hungarian-/Slovak-based SkyEurope and Polish-based AirPolonia and WizzAir to our database and will be adding Czech-based SmartWings in the next few weeks, hence in order to find cheap flights to these new EU destinations, budget travellers do not have to visit each site individually but just search all the airlines on WhichBudget." Both WizzAir and SmartWings will launch in May 2004, coinciding with the integration of the new EU member countries. WizzAir will be flying from Luton to Katowice, while SmartWings does not currently have any flights to/from the UK. AirPolonia flies from Stansted to Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan and Warsaw and SkyEurope flies from Stansted to Bratislava, Budapest and Warsaw. To find out which budget airline flies from your local airport or to your favourite destination, visit www.whichbudget.com, featuring over 30 budget airlines and hundreds of destinations, all on one site. |
