WhichBudget Press Release, December 2004 WHICHBUDGET EXPANDS INTO TURKEY WhichBudget (www.whichbudget.com), the Europe's leading budget travel website announced today it is to expand into Turkey. "We have already translated the website into Turkish and have added Onur Air and Atlas Jet, two Turkish low-cost airlines," said Martino Matijevic, WhichBudget's Managing Director, adding that "Fly Air, the remaining domestic budget airline, will be added once they enable online bookings. Turkey is an important market for us, with 75 million inhabitants and a large immigrant community living throughout Europe, looking for cheap ways of visiting their friends and family back in Turkey. There are already several low-cost/charter airlines linking Turkey with several European countries, serving both the immigrant community, as well as the Western European tourists." Onur Air, Fly Air and Atlas Jet brought aggressive competition to the Turkish market during Summer 2004, with rates from 25 euros, causing national carrier Turkish Airlines and even the inter-city bus companies to reduce prices. "Budget airlines are likely to succeed in the domestic market, since Turkey's passenger transport mainly depends on badly maintained and heavily congested highways," comments Evren Tosyali, WhichBudget's Turkish Manager. "Bus trips over 15 hours are not uncommon, while an average domestic flight in Turkey lasts around 60 minutes. The State also aids the new airlines since long-time abandoned airports are back in use again, bringing remote districts and regions closer to the commercial centers like Ankara, Izmir, Istanbul."
